Pakistan Independence Day event was celebrated in Sydney University Pakistan

A youth-led Pakistan Independence Day was celebrated last week at Australia’s oldest tertiary education institution, the University of Sydney – the first of its kind in Sydney.Hosted by the Peshawar School for Peace and the University of Sydney Pakistani Society, the event brought together over 100 people from all ages and backgrounds, to celebrate beautiful Pakistan’s independence.Guests were addressed by Pakistani Consul General Mr Abdul Aziz, Peshawar School for Peace Coordinator Francis Ventura, Pakistani Society founder Sohail Bukhari, High Commission Defence Attaché Brig. Muhammad Asghar , Ms Bushra Salam, the new Vice Consul of Pakistan , Mr Muhammad Asif , CEO Easylink Group & Editor In Chief Sangat Magazine. The special guest performance was made by Zohab Khan, the 2014 Australian Poetry Slam Champion. All proceeds went to the School, which aims to build peace through interfaith harmony and girls’ empowerment in Peshawar. The University’s Pakistani Society was set up by amazing young leaders of Pakistani descent to showcase the beauties of the country’s history, diversity and culture to all students.Everyone, especially non-Pakistanis, was left with a positive impression of the Land of the Pure.The organisers were grateful to Easylink Finance & Sangat Magazine for their generous sponsorship and gifts distributed to the winner of Trivia night of the event.
